Ethereum Validator Reward Burning Proposal Withdrawn, Debate Continues
The Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) to burn a portion of validator rewards has been withdrawn from the Hegota update. The proposal, known as EIP-8363, aimed to reduce excessive staking rates that could centralize validators and weaken ETH's monetary role.
Jérôme de Tychey, co-author of the proposal and President of Ethereum France, stated that they agreed with the view that changes to monetary policy should not be decided within the network update process. This decision does not mean that the idea of burning staking rewards has been abandoned entirely.
The authors plan to conduct a review process for ETH supply policy independently of the network update. The discussion about Ethereum's long-term supply and staking incentives will continue in a separate process, with meetings scheduled for November at Devcon and January at the cryptoeconomics workshop at Columbia University.
