Ethereum Weighs Proposal to Give Validators More Control Over Automatic Withdrawals

Ethereum is considering a proposal to give validators more control over automatic withdrawals. EIP-8148 would allow 0x02 validators to set their own custom limit for how much ETH must remain in the validator before excess rewards are automatically withdrawn.

The current rules have an effective cap of 32 ETH for 0x01 validators, while 0x02 validators can compound their balance up to 2,048 ETH. If EIP-8148 advances, 0x02 validators would be able to choose a limit between 32 ETH and 2,048 ETH.

A new 0x02 validator may register an initial limit in the creation deposit, but if the value is missing, invalid or below the deposited amount, the protocol will ignore it and use the default of 2,048 ETH.
