Ethereum Withdraws Controversial Monetary Proposal Ahead of Hegotá Fork
Ethereum's most contentious monetary proposal of 2026 has been withdrawn from consideration for the upcoming Hegotá fork. The decision was made by Jerome de Tychey, president of Ethereum France and co-author of EIP-8363, which proposed a consensus-reward burn that scales with stake.
The withdrawal comes after intense debate and pushback from various parties in the industry, including Lido, the largest staking pool. Lido had opposed the inclusion of EIP-8363 in the Hegotá fork due to insufficient review time for the new curve.
De Tychey acknowledged that a dedicated process is needed to settle issuance policy changes and thanked Lido for offering to help steer one. The authors of EIP-8363 stated that they aim to prevent a high staking ratio, which can concentrate social and governance power and make capture easier.
