Ethereum Withdraws Issuance Reduction Proposal from Hegota Upgrade
The Ethereum Foundation has withdrawn its proposal to reduce issuance from consideration as part of the Hegota network upgrade, citing concerns about handling monetary policy changes through a standard fork process.
Jerome de Tychey, Ethereum France representative, announced the withdrawal of EIP-8363 on X, saying that future matters related to Ethereum issuance policy would be handled through a separate governance process.
The proposal, introduced by Justin Drake and others in August, aimed to implement a 'tapered issuance burn' plan, which would have burned a larger amount of staking rewards as the amount of staked ETH increased. The goal was to phase in the change over 18 months and reach a burn rate of 100 percent when staked ETH reaches 60.25 million ETH.
However, industry participants and core developers argued that major monetary policy issues like ETH issuance should go through a separate governance process. De Tychey agreed with these views, stating that the concerns remain over how a rising staking ratio could affect network security and neutrality and ETH's role as money.
