Ethereum's Client Diversity Dashboard Exposes Incompatible Estimates
Ethereum's client diversity dashboard has shown conflicting estimates about which consensus client holds the largest share of validators, highlighting the need for stronger validator privacy.
A snapshot from September 16 showed three different clients with incompatible readings: Blockprint estimated Teku at 99.83%, Miga Labs estimated Lighthouse at 51.32%, and Rated estimated Teku at 53.86%. These estimates come from different proxies, including machine-learning classification, client metadata, and a method not disclosed by clientdiversity.org.
Ethereum researchers are exploring stronger validator privacy through the Lean-chain research proposal, which would use fresh validator keys each day and hide links between deposits, validator activity, and withdrawals. This approach aims to weaken some of the traces used to measure operator and stake concentration.
