Ethereum's Competitive Edge at Risk: SharpLink CEO Warns of EIP-8363 Threat
SharpLink CEO Joseph Chalom has spoken out against Ethereum Improvement Proposal EIP-8363, warning that it will undermine one of Ethereum's competitive advantages over Bitcoin. In his view, this is a critical moment for Ethereum, as it is currently outpacing its rival and other major cryptocurrencies.
EIP-8363 proposes the phased burning of validator consensus rewards, with a 100% reduction rate when 60.25 million staked coins (about half of the total supply) are reached. This would significantly reduce the profit from locking funds, which Chalom believes acts as a base rate for all on-chain markets.
According to Chalom, this change will increase the cost of capital, bring real returns to zero, and push collateral and activity to other networks. He also expressed concerns that the proposal's interpretation of issuance as a network's cost for its own security is misguided.
