Ethereum's Glamsterdam Update Launches on Sepolia Testnet October 6th
Ethereum's next major network update, Glamsterdam, is set to launch on the Sepolia testnet on October 6th at 16:53 Turkish time. The update combines the Amsterdam update at the execution layer and the Gloas update at the consensus layer into a single package. Validators running on Sepolia need to upgrade both their execution and consensus layer software to the specified versions.
The Glamsterdam update includes a new system called ePBS, which separates validators who propose blocks from the structures that prepare the blocks at the protocol level. This aims to make the block production process more reliable and efficient. Additionally, block-level access lists are introduced to indicate in advance which Ethereum data transactions will touch, potentially increasing Ethereum's mainlayer capacity in the future.
The update only covers the Sepolia testnet, and Ethereum holders do not need to take any action. The exact date when the update will be activated on the Ethereum mainnet is not yet confirmed and will be determined after the test results are available.
