Ethereum's Glamsterdam Upgrade Brings Gas Repricing to Boost Scalability
The Ethereum Foundation has announced plans to implement gas repricing in its upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade. This change, which will take place in Q4 2026, aims to make gas costs more accurately reflect the computational work required for state creation and access.
Two EIPs (Ethereum Improvement Proposals) are behind this move: EIP-8037 and EIP-8038. These proposals increase the gas cost for creating new state elements and accessing state operations, respectively.
This repricing is critical for Ethereum's scalability as it enables a potential tripling of its block gas limit over time, allowing for increased throughput without compromising network stability.
