Ethereum's Glamsterdam Upgrade Faces Security Concerns Ahead of Testnet Launch

The Ethereum development team has announced that the Glamsterdam upgrade will be tested on Sepolia testnet on October 6, 2026. However, this comes with a warning: malicious actors could exploit free testnet tokens to disrupt block building and create fake builder identities.

This vulnerability was highlighted by consensus developer Potuz during a development meeting, who explained that an attacker could 'spin up a thousand builders, rotate them, offer very high bids, and not produce payloads.' This would allow them to withhold the required transaction information, potentially paralyzing testnet operations.

The Glamsterdam upgrade aims to expand network capacity per block, with a target gas ceiling approaching 200 million. It also extends the timeframe for broadcasting transaction payload information from two seconds to nearly nine seconds.
