Ethereum's Glamsterdam Upgrade Launches on Sepolia Testnet
Ethereum's latest upgrade, Glamsterdam, has successfully launched on the Sepolia testnet, marking a key step toward its eventual mainnet deployment. The upgrade, which combines the Amsterdam execution layer and Gloas consensus layer upgrades, includes 18 core and 7 supporting Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs). These changes aim to enhance the network's scaling capabilities while maintaining efficiency in block validation.
The upgrade introduces enshrined proposer-builder separation (ePBS) and block-level access lists (BALs), which are designed to boost execution capacity while ensuring that block verification remains practical for node operators. Additionally, the gas limit will increase from 60 million to 200 million, allowing the network to process more transactions and complex computations per block. Prysm released a last-minute update to automatically apply the new gas limit for validators on Sepolia before the upgrade went live.
Ethereum community contributor Pooja Ranjan confirmed the launch on X, noting that developers, projects, and infrastructure providers can now test compatibility with the upcoming changes. If the upgrade continues to run smoothly on Sepolia, developers will next consider a launch on the Hoodi testnet before planning for the mainnet deployment.
Meanwhile, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin highlighted at the OKX NOW event that over the next two years, onchain applications will increasingly integrate with AI, where bots could handle most front-end onchain interactions. He also noted that AI introduces some structural changes. On the technical front, Ethereum (ETH) is currently trading at $2,690, with potential support at the 20-day EMA. The token maintains a bullish near-term bias, with key resistance levels identified at $2,781, $3,075, and $3,260.
