Ethereum’s Glamsterdam Upgrade Launches on Sepolia Testnet
Ethereum’s Glamsterdam upgrade has officially launched on the Sepolia testnet, marking a critical step in its broader rollout. The upgrade went live on Tuesday at 1:53 pm UTC (epoch 353,024) and includes key protocol changes aimed at improving network scalability and efficiency.
The two core changes are enshrined proposer-builder separation (EIP-7732) and block-level access lists (EIP-7928). EIP-7732 is designed to streamline block production and validation by separating roles and reducing bottlenecks. Meanwhile, EIP-7928 introduces block-level access lists to support more efficient parallel state access and validation.
After further testing on the Hoodi testnet, developers will set the final activation date for the mainnet. The Ethereum Foundation described Glamsterdam as a significant step toward improving layer-1 scalability, positioning it as one of the most consequential protocol changes scheduled for 2026.
The next phase of testing on Hoodi will determine the upgrade’s readiness before mainnet activation. Developers are also looking ahead to the Hegotá upgrade, which will follow Glamsterdam and introduce additional privacy capabilities.
