Ethereum's Glamsterdam Upgrade Moves Forward with Sepolia Testnet Fork

Ethereum's Glamsterdam upgrade has taken another step forward with the announcement of a testnet fork on Sepolia scheduled for October 6, 2026. This development is significant as it marks genuine progress towards one of Ethereum's most ambitious scaling overhauls in years.

The upgrade's scope remains frozen, but it can still shift because the meta Ethereum Improvement Proposal document defining what ships remains in draft form. Devnets surface bugs, proposals graduate to public testnets like Sepolia, and only then does anything touch live ETH.

Glamsterdam is built around three aims: parallelization, expanded capacity, and keeping the database from bloating. The average Ethereum transfer fee has dropped from $0.715 on April 21 to just $0.094 today, making the network cheaper while it gets stronger.
