Ethereum's Glamsterdam Upgrade Nears Completion
The Ethereum network is set to undergo its next major update, known as Glamsterdam. On October 6th, 2026, a testnet called Sepolia will be forked, marking a significant milestone in the development of this upgrade. Developers expect the mainnet to follow later in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Glamsterdam aims to improve processing speed and capacity through parallelization. It also includes a new feature called ePBS, which overhauls the block validation pipeline and reduces trust assumptions. This update is seen as a foundation for Ethereum's next scaling phase.
Ethereum researcher Toni Wahrstätter has expressed optimism about the upcoming fork, citing potential benefits such as significant throughput increases and faster syncing times. However, it's essential to note that these improvements are still theoretical and will be tested on mainnet before they can be confirmed.
