Ethereum's Glamsterdam Upgrade Nears Completion with Sepolia Fork Scheduled

The Ethereum Foundation's Glamsterdam upgrade is nearing completion, according to researcher Toni Wahrstätter. Wahrstätter states that things are looking good and they're in the final stretch. The first public test of Glamsterdam is expected soon, with a Sepolia fork scheduled for October 6, 2026.

The mainnet launch is planned for Q4 2026, although no specific date has been announced yet. Wahrstätter believes that Glamsterdam will be one of the biggest forks seen yet, and while it's taken a long time, he thinks the end result will be worth it.

The Glamsterdam upgrade aims to pave the way for the next generation of scaling on Ethereum. It has three main goals: speeding up processing (parallelization), expanding capacity, and preventing database bloat (sustainability). The ePBS is a key component of the upgrade, revamping the block validation pipeline and reducing trust assumptions.

Ethereum cofounder Vitalik Buterin also shared his vision for Ethereum's future in a recent post. He sees a hybrid architecture that combines blockchains and modern cryptography to enable more powerful properties. After Hegota, which is planned for next year, Ethereum will begin its transition from being just a blockchain to something much more powerful.
