Ethereum's Last Normal Fork: Hegotá Upgrade Could be Network's Final Evolution
Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, thinks that the upcoming Hegotá upgrade could be the last 'normal' fork for the network.
In an interview on Sunday, Buterin stated that Hegotá, planned for 2027, will likely feature technology and features still recognizable to someone familiar with Ethereum in 2015. This would mark a significant shift in the development of Ethereum, which Buterin described as transitioning from a simple blockchain to a 'cryptographic world computer'.
This transition will involve combining blockchains with cryptographic verification, privacy, and decentralized offchain components. As a result, more computation may move offchain, while the base layer is used for verifying results, settling transactions, and preserving access to shared onchain state.
