Ethereum's Multi-Party Block Construction Launches on Mainnet
Ethereum's long-awaited multi-party block construction (MPBC) has gone live on its mainnet. This innovation allows multiple builders to contribute transactions to a single block without requiring any changes to the underlying protocol.
The initiative, coordinated by the Blockspace Forum, marks a significant shift away from the traditional one-builder approach, which funneled all transactions through a single entity. MPBC creates multiple inclusion paths, resulting in blocks that are fuller, more diverse, and faster at confirming pending transactions.
Early data suggests that MPBC is already producing impressive results: roughly 3% of Ethereum blocks in the first 24 hours were constructed using this approach, and over 20,000 transactions have been included faster since testing began in late August. Some multi-party blocks even contained up to 810 additional transactions compared to what a single builder would have produced.
