Ethereum's Pectra Upgrade Shifts Staking Dominance
The Ethereum network has undergone significant changes since the Pectra upgrade in May 2025. One of the notable shifts is in staking dominance, where solo validators now run minipools with as little as 0.01 ETH.
This change was triggered by the effective balance reduction in September, which led to a shift away from Rocket Pool's 2.4 million ETH dominance. With the Pectra upgrade, validators can now increase their maximum effective balance from 32 ETH to 2048 ETH, allowing for consolidation of multiple 32 ETH validators into a single node.
The total staked amount on Ethereum has reached approximately 38.6 million ETH, accounting for about 32% of the total supply. Institutional holdings have also grown significantly, reaching 7.3 million ETH by March 2026.
