Ethereum's Reward Burning Proposal Axed, Supply Debate Continues
Ethereum's Hegota network update has removed a proposal to burn a portion of validator rewards, sparking debate about the cryptocurrency's long-term supply.
The proposal, known as EIP-8363, aimed to reduce the rewards earned by Ethereum validators as the amount of staked ETH increases.
Proponents argued that high staking rates could centralize the validator structure and weaken ETH's monetary role, but critics raised concerns about the proposal's impact on security, economic incentives, and solo validators.
Despite its withdrawal, the EIP's authors plan to continue the discussion on Ethereum's supply policy through a separate process, which will include meetings and workshops in November and April.
