Ethereum's Staking Yield Burn Proposal Sparks Controversy Among DeFi Founders
A proposal to cap Ethereum's staking yield burn has sparked controversy among DeFi founders and solo stakers. The proposed EIP-8361 would reduce the net consensus yield from 2.6% to 1.2%, according to validatorqueue.com, at today's staking level.
Aave founder Stani Kulechov and ether.fi CEO Mike Silagadze have expressed strong opposition to the proposal. In a thread on X, Kulechov argued that the mechanism would punish growth in staking, which is currently increasing Ethereum's staking ratio. He also pointed out that the transition could create tax exposure for validators.
Silagadze claimed the change would push out solo stakers and leave staking to large centralized entities with zero cost of capital. He also argued that the reasoning behind the proposal betrays a 'cash-accounting level of understanding' of the economy.
