Ethereum's Validator Entry Delay: A Deliberate Rate-Limiter
The Ethereum network has been experiencing a significant delay in validator entry, with around 1.8 million ETH waiting to enter the validator set and an estimated wait time of about 32 days.
This is not due to network congestion or a lock-up period but rather a result of Ethereum's proactive decision to limit the speed at which validators enter the system.
The Churn Limit, a rate-limiting mechanism, caps how much staked balance can enter the validator set per epoch. Currently, this limit is 256 ETH per epoch, allowing for approximately 57,600 ETH to enter daily.
This means that if more than 57,600 ETH flood into the queue every day, the line won't shorten, and it will grow longer.
