Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has proposed a new upgrade to the network's cryptography system. He pitched EIP-8288 as the next major unlock for Ethereum, which could potentially improve the overall security and scalability of the platform.

EIP-8288 aims to address some of the limitations in Ethereum's current cryptography framework, specifically with regards to the use of elliptic curve digital signatures. The upgrade is still in its early stages and has yet to be implemented on the mainnet, but it has generated significant interest among developers and users.

Vitalik Buterin emphasized that EIP-8288 is not a replacement for the ongoing development of Ethereum 2.0, but rather a complementary upgrade that can coexist with other improvements to the network.
