ETHFI Price Drops Amid Restaking Narrative Reset
Ether.fi's token, ETHFI, dropped around 3.5% in the last 14 hours due to concerns over its restaking narrative.
A recent article published by CoinDesk on September 28 at 4:24pm UTC reported that Ether.fi plans to exit restaking entirely this quarter because yields are negligible and perceived risk to stakers has increased.
The article highlighted the 'restaking gold rush' as largely over, with top protocols barely profitable. It also noted that Ether.fi's current model saw gross profit fall about 47% year on year while restaking yields failed to compensate for added risk.
The company is pivoting towards a neobank style model (card, borrow, tokenized assets) to 'fully replace' lost staking revenue. This strategic shift away from the original core restaking thesis negatively impacted ETHFI's narrative and perceived long-term fee capture.
