EU Blocks US Crypto Spot ETFs from Retail Investors

US-based cryptocurrency spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are not available to retail investors in Europe due to strict EU regulations.

The main issue lies in the requirement for a key information document (KID), which US issuers do not provide, and instead offer exchange-traded products (ETPs) as an alternative.

However, these ETPs carry issuer risk since they are debt securities, not funds, unlike traditional ETFs.

In contrast to the US market, where single-asset ETFs are allowed for cryptocurrencies like XRP, Solana, and Ethereum, European fund laws prohibit them.
