About 90% of previously operating crypto firms failed to secure full EEA-wide authorization or wound down uncompliant services, leaving retail users vulnerable to unexpected wallet freezes and account migrations.

Cybercriminals are creating convincing fake websites and posing as regulatory 'watchdogs' or customer support representatives from compliant exchanges, targeting users facing disruption and coercing them into transferring assets to 'secure wallets' or surrendering private keys.
