EU Firms Push to Lift Tokenized Securities Cap Amid Scaling Concerns

A coalition of European financial and tokenization firms has urged EU lawmakers to remove or significantly increase the proposed 100 billion euro cap on tokenized financial instruments.

The letter, dated September 7, is directed to members of the European Council and the European Parliament's Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee. Signatories include Nasdaq, Boerse Stuttgart Group, Securitize, the European Ethereum Institute, and Axiology.

The coalition argues that the proposed cap would be too low for Europe's tokenization trajectory, citing regional projects already approaching 350 billion euros in scale and planning additional growth.

The industry letter also frames the limitation as structurally restrictive because of how it is measured, to the market value of financial instruments admitted to DLT infrastructure rather than trading volumes.
