EU MiCA Regulation Sees Bank Participation Surge

Share

The European Union's MiCA regulation is driving growth in the number of banks listed on its crypto provider register. According to analysis of ESMA data, about 80 banks are now listed, up from roughly 40 on June 26.

This represents a significant increase in bank participation, with their share rising from around 17% to nearly 23% of the total registered providers. Germany is leading this growth, with dozens of cooperative and commercial banking groups appearing on the list, including Volksbank, Raiffeisenbank, and VR Bank institutions.

Deutsche Bank has also announced plans to launch digital asset custody for institutional and corporate clients in Europe, pending regulatory approval in October. Banks can offer various crypto services, such as custody of crypto-assets and exchange between crypto-assets and funds, but must notify their home regulator at least 40 working days before starting.
