EU Sanctions Expanded as Eight Countries Join Efforts Against Belarus
The European Union has welcomed eight non-EU countries that have agreed to join their sanctions against Belarus. These countries include Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, and Ukraine.
The EU imposed the sanctions on July 23 in response to Minsk's support for Russia's war against Ukraine. The new measures aim to restrict goods and technologies that could strengthen Belarus' military capabilities or provide alternative revenue sources.
The sanctions also include restrictions on Belarus' participation in crypto-asset-related businesses based in the EU. However, there are exemptions for essential goods and services necessary to support public internet infrastructure.
