EU Sanctions Package Targets Key Sectors of Russia's Economy
The European Union has adopted its 21st package of sanctions against Russia in an effort to further restrict its ability to fund its war and carry out attacks on Ukrainian civilians. The measures target key sectors such as energy, financial services, trade, and the military-industrial complex.
The EU has expanded its list of Russian banks subject to a transaction ban, with over 100 now included. This includes a prohibition on using financial messaging services, which will severely impact Russia's ability to move funds around to support its war efforts.
The package also introduces new restrictions on crypto-asset services and platforms, including a dedicated third-country ban for such services that facilitate sanctions circumvention.
