Europe Pushes for Regulated Dollar Tokens Amid Growing Demand

European stablecoin issuers are pushing for regulated US dollar tokens to meet growing demand from businesses and crypto platforms.

The launch of AllUnity's USD-pegged stablecoin USDAU marks a significant expansion beyond European currencies in the MiCA-regulated lineup. CEO Alexander Höptner explained that 'in global trade and FX markets, the US dollar is the glue.' He emphasized that offering only euro stablecoins isn't enough for European corporates to make cross-border payments globally.

Stable Mint's James Bennett noted that demand for dollar stablecoins in Europe reflects practical business needs rather than something policymakers can steer toward the euro. 'Dollar stablecoins are where the demand is, and Europe can’t wish that away,' he said.
