Europe Sees Surge in Crypto Wrench Attacks as Security Concerns Mount

Crypto wrench attacks are on the rise in Europe, according to CertiK's latest data. The security firm recorded 52 verified attacks worldwide in H1 2026, a 33.3% increase from the year before.

The majority of these attacks took place in France, with 33 out of 39 incidents reported in the first half of 2026. This trend suggests that crypto wallet security is becoming a growing concern for European users.

In one recent case, Spanish police arrested two suspects over a Finestrat robbery involving €20,000 in cash, gold, and cryptocurrencies. The victim was restrained and assaulted for hours to force digital asset transfers.
