Europe's Crypto Industry Sees Surge in Transparency and Regulation
Europe's crypto industry is undergoing significant changes since the MiCA deadline, and OKX Europe CEO Erald Ghoos sees this as a positive development. The number of ways for users to verify a platform's legitimacy has increased, making it easier for them to trust exchanges, wallets, or platforms.
The question of whether a platform can cover its liabilities is being addressed through Proof of Reserves. OKX Europe has published 45 consecutive monthly reports on its on-chain wallets holding $23.1 billion across BTC, ETH, USDT, and USDC, with reserve ratios ranging from 101% to 112%. These figures are verifiable by individual users without exposing their identities.
OKX Europe holds three separate authorisations: a MiCA CASP licence, MiFID II authorisation, and a Payment Institution licence. This regulatory framework is unprecedented in the crypto industry, applying bank-style standards for governance, capital, and consumer protection across 30 EEA states.
The company has also introduced OKX Protect, which gives users account-level tools, withdrawal safeguards, and monitoring to catch potential security breaches early. Large Withdrawal Protection allows users to set their own threshold for large withdrawals, triggering an additional verification step.
