Ex-NCA Officer Must Repay £1.8m Stolen Bitcoin

A former officer of the National Crime Agency (NCA) has been ordered to repay £1.8m in Bitcoin after being found guilty of stealing from a seized digital wallet.

The officer, Chowles, was part of the team that analyzed and extracted cryptocurrency from devices during an investigation into Silk Road 2.0, a dark website used for selling illegal goods to criminal networks.

During the case against Thomas White, who was jailed in 2019 for selling illicit items on Silk Road 2.0, 97 Bitcoin were seized. However, it was discovered that 50 Bitcoin had been withdrawn from the wallet.

An investigation found that Chowles, not White, had taken the Bitcoin and attempted to cover his tracks through various transactions in 2017.
