Exchange Custody vs Self-Custody: CZ Weighs In on Bitcoin Losses
Recent data from on-chain analyst Willy Woo suggests that approximately 1.57 million Bitcoin may have been permanently lost through self-custody errors, while about 1.51 million were lost on exchanges.
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) responded to these figures by stating that exchange custody can appear statistically safer than self-custody for many users.
However, CZ emphasized the importance of considering data biases and the role of failed exchanges in the statistics.
