Coinbase and its partners have sought to alleviate concerns that OpenUSD could replace USDC, Circle's flagship stablecoin. In reality, OpenUSD is meant to complement rather than displace USDC. The clarification came after Circle's valuation fell sharply following the launch of OpenUSD.

Coinbase reaffirmed its partnership with Circle, stating it has met the conditions to renew the agreement and will continue expanding the USDC ecosystem. Alesia Haas, Chief Financial Officer at Coinbase, emphasized the company's commitment to Circle and USDC during a recent earnings call.

Visa and Mastercard have also weighed in on the matter. Ryan McInerney, Visa's CEO, stated that OpenUSD is another stablecoin supported on its network alongside USDC and USDG. Similarly, Michael Miebach, Mastercard's CEO, described OpenUSD as an additional option for users.
