Exchanges Rush to Lead the 'All-In-One Market' in Tokenized Stock Trading
Cryptocurrency exchanges are rapidly evolving from pure crypto platforms into 'universal exchanges' that cover stocks, commodities, and derivatives. This shift is not just about expanding product lines but could also change the cyclical nature of exchange revenue.
The SEC's newly introduced 'Innovation Exemption' policy may help move tokenized stocks out of gray areas and toward legalization. Leading platforms like Kraken and Binance are now converging towards full-stack infrastructure that covers both crypto-native and traditional markets.
Kraken, through its proprietary Ethereum Layer 2 network Ink and xStocks, is positioning itself across the entire tokenized stock value chain. Its parent company Payward also serves as an excellent case study for this shift, with a $100 million investment from Nasdaq Ventures to deepen collaboration on tokenized stock infrastructure.
The growth in issuance has directed secondary market activity toward decentralized exchanges and automated market makers, particularly Uniswap v4 on Robinhood Chain. Tokenized stock trading and perpetual futures linked to real-world assets have seen significant growth across major exchanges, with spot tokenized stock volumes surging significantly this year.
