Fairshake Expands Midterm Campaign Spending for Crypto-Friendly House Candidates
Fairshake, a crypto-focused political action committee (PAC), has announced plans to support 32 House candidates ahead of the November midterm elections. The slate includes 19 Republicans and 13 Democrats, all of whom have backed legislation critical to the crypto industry. Fairshake intends to spend $1 million each on six candidates: Reps. Janelle Bynum (D-Oregon), Steven Horsford (D-Nevada), Derek Tran (D-California), French Hill (R-Arkansas), Bryan Steil (R-Wisconsin), and Bill Huizenga (R-Michigan). The group has not disclosed spending amounts for the remaining 26 candidates.
Fairshake spokesperson Geoff Vetter emphasized that the group’s support is based on crypto policy positions rather than party affiliation. “Fairshake has always been and always will be an issue-focused organization,” Vetter said. The PAC and its affiliates reported $120 million in cash at the end of August, with $40 million spent supporting Democrats and $31 million supporting Republicans in primaries and special elections this year.
The announcement follows the Senate’s September blockage of the CLARITY Act, which sought to establish a federal regulatory framework for digital assets. Fairshake had previously announced plans to spend nearly $30 million against Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod Brown in Ohio. Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego, who received support from Fairshake, criticized the move, calling it “dumb politics” and noting that 60 votes would still be needed to pass market-structure legislation after the election.
Fairshake’s latest spending comes as the crypto industry remains active in campaign activities ahead of the midterms, while federal crypto legislation remains unresolved.
