Fairshake Keeps Its Powder Dry in Massachusetts Primary
Fairshake, a powerful super PAC backed by major crypto industry players like Coinbase and Ripple Labs, has taken an unusual approach in Massachusetts' congressional primary. Instead of deploying its usual massive financial firepower, Fairshake has spent just $189,000 supporting Democratic Rep. Jake Auchincloss.
This is a relatively modest sum compared to Fairshake's other efforts this cycle, which have seen it spend up to $12 million per race in competitive contests. Given the PAC's war chest of nearly $200 million for the 2026 election cycle, its limited involvement in MA-4 raises questions about why Massachusetts was chosen and what strategy is at play.
The primary pits Auchincloss against challenger Jason Poulos, who has positioned himself as opposed to outside crypto-industry spending. Fairshake's low-key approach may inadvertently give Poulos a valuable talking point about corporate influence in the race. Meanwhile, Protect Progress, an affiliated PAC, has circulated mailers that use Auchincloss's own campaign messaging against Poulos.
