Fairshake Unleashes $30M Against Sherrod Brown After CLARITY Act Stalls
The crypto industry is gearing up to spend another $30 million on Ohio Senatorial candidate Sherrod Brown's campaign. This commitment comes after the Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act, a bill that aimed to establish a federal market structure for digital assets and clarify responsibilities between the SEC and CFTC.
Fairshake, a crypto super PAC, has committed at least $30 million to opposing Brown's attempt to return to the US Senate. This is Fairshake's largest expenditure against a single candidate this midterm cycle. The network spent roughly $40 million against Brown in 2024, when he lost his Senate seat to Republican Bernie Moreno.
The CLARITY Act failed to advance with a 50-49 majority vote, but Senator Thom Tillis changed his vote to no for procedural reasons, allowing the door to be left open for another vote. Democrats raised several objections to the bill, including demands for stronger restrictions on President Donald Trump's crypto businesses and stablecoin rewards.
Brown was not in the Senate for the CLARITY Act vote but has a history of clashing with the crypto industry over regulation and consumer protection. Fairshake is backed by major crypto companies, including Coinbase, Ripple, and Andreessen Horowitz, which still have substantial funds available for other races.
