Fake Claude Apps Stealing Crypto Assets as Fable 5.1 and Mythos 5.1 Models Released
Cybersecurity researchers have discovered that scammers are impersonating Anthropic's Claude app in an attempt to steal users' cryptocurrency and Bitcoin wallets. The fake 'Claude Opus 5 Free Desktop' app is being distributed via Github, luring people with a 'free version' of the paid artificial intelligence (AI) model.
The malware, known as Revstealer, targets various crypto asset wallets, including Atomic, Armory, Cake Wallet, Sparrow, Wasabi, Ledger Wallet, Trezor Suite, Electrum, and others. It steals encrypted wallet files, browser data, password managers, and VPN configurations without decrypting wallets themselves.
The researchers warn that newly released Fable 5.1 and Mythos 5.1 models could become attractive bait for scammers offering 'free' or 'exclusive' access. The co-founder of Refi Hub, Numa Lunah, was compromised after following a download link delivered to him.
