Farage's Reform UK Slumps as Crypto Scandals Bite

Nigel Farage's Reform UK party has seen its poll ratings decline following a series of scandals surrounding its finances, including alleged undeclared donations and ties to crypto billionaires. Despite initial success in the 2024 general election and subsequent local votes, Reform's polling numbers have fallen by 5% since May, according to YouGov.

Investigations into the party's financial dealings have raised questions about Farage's involvement with Bitcoin and his crypto venture with former Conservative Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng. The party has also faced scrutiny over £32m donations promised by crypto billionaires Christopher Harborne and Ben Delo.

A study by Persuasion UK, a research and polling organization, found that messages highlighting the party's ties to self-enrichment or financial malfeasance damage its image among target voters. The researchers discovered that reports on Farage's involvement with Bitcoin and donations from ultra-wealthy crypto barons can sink Reform by three to four points among swing voters.

Reform's core voter base remains largely unaffected, but the party's weakness on economic issues is a key concern. The study found that attack lines about support from crypto billionaires are more damaging to the party than those targeting its cultural stances.
