FATF Report Names Hedera Alongside Ethereum & Solana in DeFi Infrastructure Discussion

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has released a report on regulatory challenges in decentralized finance (DeFi), which highlights Hedera (HBAR) alongside Ethereum and Solana as examples of distributed-ledger infrastructure used at the settlement layer.

Ayman 'AI Man' Mufleh pointed out that the reference to HBAR is meaningful because it places the asset in a regulatory discussion around how DeFi systems are structured.

However, it's essential to note that the report does not designate Hedera as an approved or selected system for global financial settlement. The mention of HBAR is part of a discussion on the technical stack and regulatory perimeter of DeFi.

The FATF standards generally do not apply to payment infrastructure unless those operating at that layer also provide services falling within the definition of a virtual asset service provider, or VASP.
