FBI Agent Accused of $1 Million Crypto Theft from 'Adversarial Nation'

A former FBI agent has been accused of stealing $1 million in cryptocurrencies from accounts tied to an 'adversarial nation', according to court records. The alleged theft occurred while Patrick Steven Yaroch, a Supervisory Special Agent at the FBI's Counterintelligence and Espionage Division, was working at the FBI Headquarters.

Yaroch allegedly became frustrated with the agency's inability or unwillingness to act against cryptocurrency accounts tied to adversarial nations, and chose to take matters into his own hands. He transferred $925,426.07 in crypto to his personal wallets over numerous transactions, court documents claim.

Court records also reveal that Yaroch considered retiring with his wife in Portugal, according to his ChatGPT history. However, he later confessed to a Department of Justice employee about the theft, stating 'he made some very poor decisions related to cryptocurrency wallets.'
