FBI Agent Accused of Stealing $1 Million in Cryptocurrency
A high-ranking FBI agent in Washington D.C. has been accused of stealing over $1 million in cryptocurrency from digital accounts tied to a suspect in an overseas investigation.
According to court documents obtained by the Wall Street Journal, Patrick Yaroch, a supervisory agent, confessed to taking the money and making 10-12 withdrawals using passcodes gathered during the investigation.
The alleged theft occurred between 2024 or 2025, with Yaroch reportedly telling colleagues he took the money due to frustrations with the FBI's inability to act against certain cryptocurrency accounts.
Yaroch's home was searched and he was arrested over the weekend, with the FBI confirming that he has since been fired from the agency.
