FBI Agent Accused of Using Investigation-Linked Seed Phrases for Personal Gain

A former FBI supervisory special agent has been charged with using cryptocurrency seed phrases obtained through FBI investigations to access digital wallets and transfer funds to accounts under his control.

Prosecutors allege that Patrick Steven Yaroch, who worked at the bureau's headquarters in the Counterintelligence and Espionage Division, used the seed phrases to carry out approximately 10 to 12 cryptocurrency transfers between late 2024 or early 2025.

The recovered cryptocurrency, valued at approximately $925,426, was linked to accounts on Kraken, Slush, and the Suilend protocol. Investigators also identified about $165,582 in US dollars held in his Kraken account.
