A high-ranking FBI agent has been arrested and charged with allegedly looting up to $1 million in cryptocurrency from 'adversarial' wallets. The alleged theft occurred while Patrick Yaroch, a supervisory special agent at the Bureau's headquarters in Washington DC, was working on a national security investigative squad focused on an unnamed adversarial nation-state.

According to an affidavit filed by another FBI agent, Yaroch self-reported his actions last week, stating that he became frustrated when he couldn't disrupt an individual associated with the adversarial nation state's use of cryptocurrency. He allegedly used his access to FBI systems to transfer money from multiple adversarial wallets to himself.

The affidavit alleges that Yaroch created a personal crypto wallet on Kraken and conducted 10-12 transfers, amassing a value of approximately $1 million. However, he claims the stolen assets were intermingled with his personal funds, making it unclear how much specifically was taken from the adversarial wallets.

Yaroch then allegedly transferred around $1.02 million to Slush, a cross-platform wallet app for Sui (SUI), and used it to place the crypto on a decentralized finance platform called Suilend. He reportedly chose this service because he liked its logo, a water droplet.
