FBI Agent Arrested for Allegedly Stealing $1 Million in Cryptocurrency

Share

FBI Supervisory Special Agent Patrick Yaroch was arrested on June 4, 2026, after allegedly looting 'adversarial cryptocurrency accounts' and accumulating around $1 million in digital assets. According to an affidavit filed by another FBI agent, Yaroch self-reported the incident last week, stating that it had been 'eating him up inside.'

Yaroch worked at the FBI Boston Division from 2017-2025 on a national security investigative squad focused on an unnamed nation-state. He then moved to the Counterintelligence and Espionage Division in Washington DC, where he remained until his arrest.

The affidavit alleges that Yaroch became frustrated with his inability to disrupt the individual's use of cryptocurrency and decided to take matters into his own hands. He allegedly accessed FBI systems to obtain passkeys needed to transfer funds from multiple adversarial wallets to himself.

Yaroch created a personal crypto wallet on Kraken and conducted 10-12 transfers, amassing a value of approximately $1 million. However, he claims the stolen assets were intermingled with his personal funds, making it unclear how much was taken specifically from the adversarial wallets.
