FBI Agent Arrested for Allegedly Stealing $900K in Cryptocurrency
A high-ranking FBI agent has been fired and arrested for allegedly stealing over $900,000 in cryptocurrency from accounts being monitored by the agency during a national security investigation.
The supervisory agent, Patrick Steven Yaroch, accessed the digital funds using his internal access while working on a team focused on activity linked to an 'adversarial nation'. According to court records, Yaroch became frustrated with what he perceived as government inaction regarding the misuse of crypto accounts and began transferring the cryptocurrency to his own personal account.
The FBI launched an internal investigation after allegations surfaced and arrested Yaroch last week. He is charged with interstate transportation and receipt of stolen property, but has not been formally charged with theft of the cryptocurrency itself, according to court documents.
