FBI Agent Arrested for Stealing $900K in Cryptocurrency During Investigation

Share

An FBI agent has been fired and arrested after allegedly stealing over $900,000 in cryptocurrency from accounts being monitored as part of a national security investigation. The agent, Patrick Steven Yaroch, was based in Washington, D.C., and worked on a team focused on activity linked to an 'adversarial nation'.

According to court records, Yaroch accessed the digital funds using his internal FBI access and transferred them to his own personal account. He reportedly used passcodes obtained during the investigation to make up to a dozen transactions between 2024 or 2025.

The FBI stated it took immediate action once the allegations surfaced, launching an internal investigation and ultimately arresting Yaroch last week. He is charged with interstate transportation and receipt of stolen property, but has not been formally charged with theft of the cryptocurrency itself.
