FBI Agent Charged with Stealing $1 Million in Cryptocurrency
A former FBI supervisory special agent has been charged with stealing close to $1 million in cryptocurrency from wallets tied to a foreign intelligence target.
Patrick Steven Yaroch, who joined the FBI around 2017 and worked on national security squads, allegedly used his position to transfer funds into accounts he controlled. The unauthorized transactions took place between late 2024 or early 2025, with prosecutors alleging that Yaroch mixed some of the transferred cryptocurrency with his own assets.
The investigation began after Yaroch contacted a Justice Department employee and confessed to making 'very poor decisions related to cryptocurrency wallets.' Court records reveal that he later told officials the situation was 'eating him up inside.'
