FBI Agent Confesses to Stealing $1 Million in Crypto From Foreigners

Share

An FBI agent has confessed to stealing about $1 million in cryptocurrency from foreigners under investigation by the agency. The alleged theft occurred between late 2024 or early 2025 and August 2026.

The agent, Patrick Steven Yaroch, used FBI systems to access the keys needed to transfer funds from cryptocurrency accounts associated with an 'adversarial nation' to himself, according to a Federal Bureau of Investigation affidavit.

Yaroch contacted the Department of Justice last week to confess to making 'very poor decisions related to cryptocurrency wallets,' the document states. He allegedly conducted about 10 transfers totaling around $1 million.
